The Point Thumb is a mechanical, passive articulating prosthetic thumb designed to be both lightweight and strong, using a patented, novel ratcheting mechanism to lock into 11 unique positions of flexion.

Point Designs' prosthetic thumb is designed for patients with thumb loss who require a durable device and the ability for one-handed operation and various levels of flexion. Our Thumb Prosthesis Solution

Our thumb prosthesis is designed for people who have lost their thumb at or near the metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joint. It is a mechanical, passive device with a robust construction. The Point Thumb empowers people with partial thumb amputation by giving them more mobility, function, and independence.

The main features of the Point Thumb include:

  • 3 standard lengths (59, 66, and 73 mm measured from the end of the residual digit to thumbtip)
  • 11 locking levels of flexion
  • 150 lb (68 kg) load capacity
  • 1.0 oz - 1.3 oz (28 g - 38 g) in weight depending on length
  • Fast delivery (2-3 days in most cases)
  • Patented ratcheting mechanism enabling unilateral operation with auto spring back
  • Integrated compliant thumbtip pads that are touch screen compatible and field replaceable
  • The only prosthetic thumb with anatomical rotation about the patient’s metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joint
  • Fitted slicon bands for additional grip

To operate the Point Thumb, the user positions the thumb into one of the 11 locking levels of flexion by pushing the dorsal side against an opposing surface (e.g., table, thigh, etc.). The device locks into place automatically, enabling the individual to perform their desired task.

There are two methods to extend the digit:

        1) by pressing the button on the dorsal side of the thumb

        2) by fully flexing the thumb to engage the auto spring back feature (single-handed use)
