The Type of Prosthesis We Create at Point Designs

Point Designs is an innovator in the field of prosthetics. In response to requests from prosthetists and patients, we developed our flagship product, the Point Digit, a durable, ratcheting full finger prosthesis aimed at improving the independence of patients who have lost one or more fingers (digits 2-5) at or near the metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joint. Since the launch of the Point Digit in 2017, we’ve developed a sister product, the Point Partial, for people who have lost one or more partial fingers at or near the proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint.

The foundation to all of our products is an innovative improvement to the “conventional” passive prosthesis. The Point Digit (and all sister products) has an elegant and novel ratcheting linkage mechanism resulting in anatomical prosthetic finger flexion. Unlike body-powered prostheses, which require active muscle contraction to maintain grip, our type of prosthesis relies only on the ratcheting mechanism to lock the finger(s) into the position of your choosing. Our products are made to have industry leading strength and are made out of 3D-printed high-strength metal. The Point Digit is sturdy enough to be used in many applications that might damage a myoelectric or cosmetic prosthesis.

This new type of prosthesis, which merges heavy industry function with high-tech elegant design, was born through close work with prosthetists and end-users in the Biomechatronics Development Laboratory at the University of Colorado Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus. Point Designs was founded in 2016 with the sole purpose of commercializing the Point Digit. Now, with a full line of partial hand prosthetic products and hundreds of successful patient outcomes, we’re excited to continue to innovate and invent.

Prosthetic Products with a Patient-Focused Design

Our prosthetic products are designed to help patients with partial hand amputation obtain greater independence. They have an aesthetically pleasing design and are very robust. Our prostheses are made from 3D printed metal with semi-hollow construction that allows for high strength while minimizing weight. The Point Digit is the first purely mechanical, ratcheting prosthetic finger that can be positioned without using the contralateral side (unilateral operation).

Our prosthetic products are available for a wide range of finger lengths with our standard Point Digit sizing. We stock 6 standard sizes (measuring 80, 85, 90, 95, 100, and 105 mm from MCP joint center to fingertip) enabling fast delivery (2-3 days). Our key focus is ensuring the right fit for every patient and working with the clinical team to achieve a lasting and beneficial solution. That’s why we offer no cost size exchanges throughout the fitting process and prior to device delivery if the initial sizing isn’t correct. We know that navigating the world of new prosthetic products can be daunting, and we work hard to ensure the best for those we serve. Whether this is your first time fitting our product to your patient, or you are a seasoned veteran, we are available to answer your questions. We pride ourselves in developing durable and reliable products that improve a patient’s quality of life and enable prosthetists to offer personalized solutions.
